Asbestos
Cancer
Asbestos cancer, otherwise known as mesothelioma,
is a rare form of cancer in the cells that make up the lining around
the outside of the lungs and its only known cause is asbestos exposure.
A deadly form of cancer, asbestos cancer has affected a high number
of workers and families. There was knowledge of the ill effects
that asbestos exposure could cause since the 1930s, but companies
continued to expose workers and families to it without alerting
them of the potential risk of developing asbestos cancer.
Over the last 25 years, as more knowledge about
the deadly asbestos cancer became more publicized the use of asbestos
in industry began to sharply decline. Due to the latency period
of asbestos exposure and the noticeable symptoms of asbestos cancer,
people are just now being diagnosed with asbestos cancer despite
the decades since their exposure.
The
extremely high increase in asbestos cancer claims has occurred because
of the late asbestos cancer onset that is expected to continue in
the near future. It is estimated that by the year 2030 there will
be 60,000 instances of asbestos cancer in the form of mesothelioma,
in addition to 250,000 other forms of cancer. People lost their
lives and suffered greatly because of asbestos cancer and deserve
to receive compensation for the controversial asbestos exposure.
