Asbestos
Litigation
Asbestos litigation has increased dramatically in
the recent years. Although lawmakers are trying to get the asbestos
litigation under control, many people are just now receiving some
form of justice. For decades, people suffered deadly and serious
illnesses due to asbestos exposure that some companies knew existed
since the 1930s but failed to do anything about.
Since some workers did not realize the dangers involved,
as well as the late asbestos illness onset, asbestos litigation
was not pursued until recent years. The House passed a bill on July
8, 20003 regarding asbestos litigation to prevent them from being
litigated until actual asbestos illnesses become serious. In hopes
of eliminating more minor instances of asbestos litigation in order
to provide adequate funds for serious and deadly asbestos illnesses,
the bill may help curb the overwhelming amount of asbestos litigation
that currently exists.
The
asbestos litigation bill was met with opposition, however, and there
are concerns that serious asbestos litigation cases will never even
get a chance because of the potential shortage of money.
